A 1973 BMW 3.0 CSL formerly owned by British singer and musician Jay Kay is being offered up for auction this coming Saturday.

The BMW 3.0 CSL was created to allow the car manufacturer to meet homologation requirements for the European Touring Car Championship and in total, 1,265 units were produced. Of these, 500 were built for the UK market and Jay Kay’s car is number 400.

While the 3.0 CSL shared many components with the CS and CSi, it benefited from a host of weight-saving measures, including the use of thinner gauge steel for some sections of the unibody, while the front bumper, doors, hood, and trunk lid were crafted from aluminum. In addition, all soundproofing was removed and the side windows were replaced with Perspex, ensuring the CSL weighed roughly 300 lbs (136 kg) less than other 3.0 models.

As Jay Kay’s car is a 1973 model, it features a 3.2-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine with 203 hp at 5,600 rpm and 211 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. Mated to this engine is a five-speed manual transmission.

Curiously, the Silverstone Auctions listing fails to mention how many miles the car has on the clock but a look at the odometer shows it has been driven 13,100 miles. Jay Kay purchased the car in 2008 and was the 6th owner from new. The car actually left the BMW factory painted yellow but has since been resprayed in Diamond Schwartz. Pre-auction estimates suggest it will sell for between £100,000 ($137,000) and £150,000 ($205,000).
